Chapter 2

Erica sneered, pulling the frog out of her pocket and showing it off. “This is my lucky frog, I made a blood pact with it. It helped me earn $150,000 yesterday and I’m about to keep my streak going and marry into a top-tier rich family!” Unlike my quiet approach in my previous life, Erica wanted everyone to know how lucky she was. Everyone else just looked at each other, some even doubting her sanity. One female coworker closed her novel and teased, “In stories like this, if a CEO marries you because of a frog, it probably means the woman he truly loves is inside the frog and you’re just the decoy.” Erica froze for a second, then shot a sharp look at her and said firmly, “Don’t talk nonsense if you don’t understand. That’s impossible! Stop reading those stupid novels and watch me reach the top!” Yeah, there was definitely no body swapping going to happen. But the real secret behind the lucky frog was even scarier! In my last life, I only learned half the secret and paid a terrible price. I wondered if Erica could be smart enough to uncover all the secrets. I was even more curious about what would happen to her. Footsteps came from outside and the company’s big client had arrived. Our team had been chasing this order for over six months, but we still hadn’t sealed the deal. That’s why Erica and I went to the temple, hoping for some luck to finally close it today. Erica’s eyes lit up. She carefully put the frog into her pocket and said, “I’m going to land this deal.” But no one took her seriously because she was known for slacking off. Erica snorted, “You all look down on me? Just wait and see!” Today, Mr. Lincoln from the other party came personally, making the negotiation even tougher and it looked like they were headed for a deadlock. “Ribbit!” Suddenly, a frog croaked in the meeting room. “In such a serious meeting, there’s a frog in your room?” Across the table, Mr. Lincoln’s assistant asked in disbelief. The tension rose immediately, but Erica stayed calm and confident, locking eyes with Mr. Lincoln. Sure enough, Mr. Lincoln’s stern face softened. “Whose frog is this?” “It’s mine!” Erica quickly replied. “I found this lucky frog when I went to the temple to pray … “ After hearing that, Mr. Lincoln laughed for the first time. “How interesting. Since it stands for good luck, we have to sign this deal to honor Miss Rocha. I believe it’s a good sign for all of us.” And just like that, after six months of negotiation, the deal was finally closed. After Mr. Lincoln and his group left, the news that Erica had landed a billion-dollar deal thanks to a lucky frog quickly spread around the company. The coworkers who once mocked her now gathered around to thank her. After all, this deal meant big bonuses for everyone. Despite all the praise, Erica, who loved showing off, seemed distracted, constantly scrolling through her phone. Then she saw Mr. Lincoln personally posted an invitation in the project group, inviting our department to tomorrow’s cruise dinner. “Finally!” Erica said to herself excitedly. “Julian will be there tomorrow too. I’m definitely going to use this chance to make him fall for me instantly, even if it means he divorces his wife and marries me!” Many colleagues were shocked to hear Erica’s shameless words. “Mr. Blake? That’s impossible! He’s handsome and wealthy, but he’s a devoted husband. In three years of marriage, there hasn’t been a single scandal. Why would he divorce his wife for you?”
