Chapter 4

I looked up at him, my eyes were empty like dead water, I spit out a mouthful of blood and fainted on the ground. When I woke up, there was still no one around me. I looked at the heavy rain outside the window. It had been seven days. That day should be a good day for me to leave. I walked out barefoot and wanted to leave. The bodyguard wanted to stop me, but was stopped by the butler. “The boss said, let her go. Anyway, she has a positioning system installed on her.”  The wind was blowing hard outside, but I did not feel cold. It took half an hour to drive from the manor to the lighthouse by the sea, but I walked for a full three hours. It seemed that someone was celebrating a birthday by the sea. Their laughter and joy were so happy, but I just felt it was noisy. I took the elevator to the top observation deck, which was where Vincenzo proposed to me. He knelt on one knee and said that he would make me the happiest woman. Thinking about it at that time made me feel really ironic. I stepped over the guardrail and sat down on the edge of the top of the lighthouse. At this moment, the door of the emergency passage was kicked open. “Amelia!” Vincenzo’s voice came from behind, terribly hoarse. I slowly turned around and saw his scarlet eyes.  This always arrogant mafia boss, at that moment with a disheveled suit, his hair soaked with sweat and his eyes filled with fear I had never seen before. Would he be afraid? No, he was just angry. Angry that I was going to get out of his control. “Do you think you can threaten me with death?” He gritted his teeth, but did not dare to take another step forward and ordered, “Get back here!” I looked at him calmly, my voice as light as the wind as I responded, “Vincenzo. It should have ended between us a long time ago.” Vincenzo’s fists clenched and creaked as he yelled, “No, I’ve never even thought about it!” His voice trembled as he added, “Your family has not paid me back yet, why do you selfishly want to die?” I turned my head and continued to look at the night sky as I said, “So, it’s not paid back yet.  “But, for the sake of my love for you for so many years, let me go, okay?” This sentence made Vincenzo tremble all over. He stared into my eyes and finally realized that I was serious. “Amelia, you can’t die.”  He suddenly knelt down.  This man who had never bowed to anyone, at that moment had a voice of pleading, “You have not even spent the anniversary of our child’s death, how can you die?” I smiled softly and my smile was full of pain and despair as I questioned, “Vincenzo, do you know? No father in this world will kill his own child with his own hands.  “Even more, no father will burn his own flesh and blood into ashes.” I thought, if the child had a spirit in heaven, it would definitely not recognize such a father. Vincenzo’s eyes were red and he crawled forward a few steps in embarrassment as he admitted, “It’s my fault… I should not have done that. Amelia, please don’t jump…” He stretched out his hand tremblingly, but he did not dare to touch me, for fear that I would fall. But I just shook my head and cast my eyes on the brightly lit city under my feet as I stated, “Vincenzo, let’s stop here between us.” After saying that, I opened my arms and jumped!
