Chapter 3

The wheelchair squeaked as it turned and she turned to leave. “Wait!” I rushed over to stop her. She froze and turned her face away in panic. “I mean it.” I looked her straight in the eye. “You are my choice.” Her fingers were tightly gripping the armrests of the wheelchair and the tips of her ears were red as blood. After a long time, she said “um” very softly. Elliot sent someone to send me a lot of medicinal herbs and nourishing things. The scar on my forehead has scabbed over. Every time I changed the dressing, I always thought of her red ear tips that day and a warm feeling rose in my heart.  That day, I walked into the couture store and heard Tobias’s sticky voice before I even entered the door. “Jessie, I like all these suits!” As he spoke, his fingers casually stroked the cufflinks, but his eyes occasionally glanced at the most expensive ones. Jessie said in a doting tone, “Buy whatever you like and put it on Moses’s account.” I sneered and pushed the door open. When Jessie saw me, she did not feel guilty at all. Instead, she raised her chin and said, “You pushed Tobias last time and injured him. This is your apology.” Tobias suddenly set his eyes at the windbreaker on me, his eyes lit up, “Jessie, I want this one from Mr. Bryant, too.” The clerk looked embarrassed. “Sorry, this piece is a limited edition. Mr. Bryant reserved it half a year ago.” Tobias immediately lowered his head and said in a low voice, “Forget it. How can a person of ordinary background like me be worthy of wearing such expensive clothes?” As he spoke, his fingers unconsciously pressed on his left calf, the place where he had ‘accidentally’ hit it in the gallery last time. Jessie felt distressed instantly and turned to me and ordered, “Moses, you have so many clothes in your cloakroom, give this one to him.” I sneered, “Why?” “Just consider it as compensation.” She lowered her voice, “Last time in the gallery, you pushed him and he was in pain for half a month.” I was about to retort when Tobias suddenly groaned. Jessie immediately supported him, “What’s wrong? Is it hurting again?” “It’s okay…” He shook his head weakly, but cold sweat oozed from his forehead. Jessie’s eyes suddenly turned cold and ordered me, “Moses, give him the clothes.” I said coldly to the bodyguard at the door, “Please get these two people out.” But the two bodyguards actually hesitated and advised me, “Mr. Bryant, you will eventually marry Ms. Silvester, so you should just listen to her.” Before I could react, Jessie gave a look and two bodyguards grabbed my arms, pressed me to the cold marble floor! “Take it off for me!” Jessie’s voice came from above my head. The clerk did not dare to move. Jessie sneered, “He has been pursuing me for so many years. Isn’t it me who has the final say in our future marriage?” The clerk came forward tremblingly and unbuttoned my windbreaker. I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white as my clothes were ripped off. Jessie put the windbreaker on Tobias’s shoulders and said gently, “Tobias, you look better in it than him.” Tobias pursed his lips, “But this is not good… Will Mr. Bryant be angry?” Jessie suddenly took out her phone and took several photos of me in dishevel. “Moses, if you dare to cause trouble for Tobias, I will let the whole network see what you look like.” “Jessie.” I stared at her, my voice cold, “You are so disgusting.” Memories of my past life surged up and her face overlapped with the one before my eyes. The clerk could not bear it and handed me a coat. I put on my clothes and slammed the door. When my father saw how embarrassed I was, he smashed the teacup in anger, “How dare the girl from the Silvester family do this to you?! I’m going to settle the score with the Silvester Family right now!”
