Chapter 2

Arnold, no matter how much trouble he had caused, as long as he hid behind me, he wouldn’t get beaten. It was the same now. He glanced at the Patek Philippe watch I gave him on his wrist and said unhappily, “Can we go now? I have something else to do tonight.” I was well aware, the “something else” he mentioned was his appointment with his lover, Scarlett Johnson, to go to the movies and I even paid for the booking. My heart felt even more choked up and I left speechless to think of my past love. “Uncle, I’ve made up my mind.” I leaned closer and whispered a word to the middle-aged man. He froze for a moment, then looked at me with surprise and joy and nodded three times in a row. “The first day of next month will be a good day. I’ll tell my wife to prepare well and give you an unprecedented and unparalleled wedding of the century.” He patted the back of my hand and tried to say something more, Arnold’s sarcastic sneer interrupted. “Why are you so confident, Dad? We might get divorced in a few years!” Upon hearing these words, Paul immediately became furious and asked the butler to fetch the copper ruler. When the butler brought the family’s thick copper ruler, Arnold thought I would plead for him as usual and unconsciously glanced at me. But I stood next to his father calmly, not even giving him a glance. “Arnold, come and kneel down!” Hearing his father’s angry command, he finally showed some fear on his face. After all, Paul came from a military background and had great strength in disciplining them since childhood. Before I came to the Lucienne Family’s manor, I heard he made a big mistake and refused to admit it, so Paul beat him until his bones were broken. But he didn’t want to plead with me directly, so he walked over slowly and knelt down. He slowed down his movements four to five times, giving me ample opportunity to dissuade his father. Just as Paul raised the copper ruler high, I suddenly reached out and shouted. “Uncle, wait a moment.” Arnold had already his eyes closed out of fear, but when he heard me stop his father, he opened his eyes. He thought that I still couldn’t bear to see him get beaten and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t expect me to say, “For these years, I’ve spent more than a billion dollars on Arnold.” “There are gifts that I gave him voluntarily, as well as money he borrowed from me several times.” “It’s not a big sum of money actually, but since he says in front of others he will pay me back, so it’s better to pay them back to me before I get married to avoid gossip and criticize.” Hearing his third son borrowed so much money from an orphan like me, Paul’s face immediately darkened. “You don’t need to worry, Tatiana. No matter how much he borrows you, I’ll pay them back to you double, no, triple!” “It’s just that I need to teach this brat a lesson. You’re too gentle and soft-hearted to see such a fierce punishment. So you’d better stay away.” I nodded obediently and left. Before I even stepped out of the main hall, I heard the sound of the heavy copper rulers hitting from behind and the screams of Arnold. Compared to the evil things he did to me in previous life, I didn’t feel any pity for him in my heart, I just felt relieved. After dinner, I was taking a pleasant walk in the garden when I heard a low cry coming from the corner. I saw Scarlett throwing herself into Arnold’s arms deep in the flowers stand, crying. “Arnold, I think Ms. Watson is jealous of our relationship. She deliberately complained and blamed you, which is why your dad punished you.” He gasped in pain, but hatred flashed in his eyes. “Scarlett, don’t be afraid. In a few years, when I take over all the Watson’s property, I’ll immediately kick that vicious woman out and I’ll be with you forever and ever.”
